The Oprah of Fitness!

So, not long ago I was asked for my “tag line”. You know…a few words that captured me and what I hope to do. I gave it some thought and after quickly dismissing several very forgettable ideas, a thought…..NO, not just a thought, but an epiphany flashed in my mind! I am “The Oprah of Fitness. Doing for fitness, what Oprah did for books. Taking fitness mainstream by sharing my passion and uncovering yours!” The words flew together like they were preordained and I mentally patted myself on the back as I typed up my new jazzy slogan for the world to see. I was confident that people would totally get it and respond with a deep seeded appreciation for the passion I was conveying.

Um…yeah…that so didn’t happen! I was surprised to see that my new slogan was more controversial than appreciated. No one thought I should mention the name Oprah! What the….??!! As if she is known to discredit or deteriorate brands or aspiring talent. And no one seemed to get my comparison with her book club! How could that be? The general populous did not have the passion for books and reading that it did after Oprah started her book club. She didn’t invent reading, but boy did she make it popular by sharing her passion for books. People soon realized that they too shared her passion and it went mainstream. People had parties, clubs and get togethers. You could spark up a conversation with a complete stranger about one of her books because chances were that they were reading it. My ideas for taking fitness mainstream would hopefully create the same kind of enthusiasm. Exercise has been around since the beginning of time, but people just don’t know how much they’ll love it until someone helps them realize it is loveable. (And it can’t be one of those spandex wearing, over the top, energizer bunny types that wear you out just looking at them and you want feed a sedative to) With every Facebook post that opposed my genius, my enthusiasm began to unravel.

It was, and still is, beyond me that people don’t get it. But for most of my life people haven’t “got” me. I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum and have been relatively successful by doing so. Most of what I’ve ever accomplished hasn’t been popular or cheerleaded by anyone but myself. Why should this be any different? Being misunderstood has never stopped me before and it sure as hell isn’t going to stop me now. So, with much gratitude, appreciation and sincere thankfulness for the feedback, I have decided to keep my slogan (for now). The fact that damn near nobody likes it probably means that I am onto something!

And by the way…let me introduce myself! I am NaFiMo, Natural Fit Mom. I’m a wife, a mother and a fitness enthusiast. I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary of this journey on December 16, 2012. It was that day 1 year prior that, out of NOWHERE, I was hospitalized for a week. I missed my family, including my newborn son, I was missing work and fearful I would miss Christmas. When I was released I quit smoking cold turkey and bought my first piece of gym equipment a week later. I kicked it up into high gear several months after that by preparing for and then successfully placing in two figure competitions. I haven’t slowed down since then and am actually preparing for my next competition right now! I expect 2013 to be a banner year for me and my vision for taking fitness mainstream. I’ve met some phenomenally fit women who, along with myself, form a Power Mom Team (introductions will be coming soon) and plan on rocking the world of fitness. I have a new coach who is off the charts cool and can help me navigate the in’s and outs of the competitive world of the NPC. And now that I’ve discovered fitness is “my thing” I’m embracing it with everything I have and can’t wait for the experiences that will come over a year of focused energy, effort and LOVE!

If you want to get caught up on me and journey over the past several months, you can find me on my You Tube channel Natural Fitness Mom. I’m also on FaceBook and Twitter. I’m hoping to use this blog as a forum for my more lengthy rants and answers to peoples questions.

Well thank you for taking a peek into my blog so far. I hope you visit again.

Sharing my passion and uncovering yours,
NaFiMo

    NaFiMo,
Beautifully written blog. I see you have a passion and skill for writing as well as for fitness. I believe your “tag line” is the right approach. Think big and do big things…….go for it!
I’ve checked-out the entire site (Natural Fit Mom) and find it to read (text) and show (photos) very impressively. You should be very proud of the package that you’ve put together. I would like to look into your consultation services. I am doing “OK” fitness wise but I believe that I could learn a bunch from you.
